WHAT IS THE EDAG CITYBOT?

A highly automated robot vehicle, the EDAG CityBot completely redefines urban mobility, integrating it into a smart ecosystem. This makes the the EDAG CityBot a public transport and work system which supplements rail-based traffic.

ENDLESS APPLICATIONS

ONE VEHICLE – MANY APPLICATIONS

Cities of tomorrow will need efficient, scalable and environmentally friendly mobility solutions. These will have to meet the requirements of urban development and increasing traffic volumes – but above all they must take account of people and their needs. Points, which the EDAG CityBot fully meets.

NO MORE TRAFFIC JAM OR TRAFFIC INFARCT

  • AI-based traffic control
  • fewer accidents
  • 80% fewer vehicles in the city

MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY AND PROFITABILITY

  • in operation around the clock, 24/7
  • 80% tractor utilization
  • no heavy and light load problems

INTEROPERABLE MOBILITY PLATFORM

  • one software platform for all serivces
  • one open and shared API interface for IoT
  • data security and accounting system, IOTA

FULLY SUSTAINABLE

  •  emission-free during use
  •  in use for 8 years due to Predictive Maintenance
  •  CO2 neutral in development and production

A REAL GAME CHANGER

EDAG CITYBOT FUNCTIONS – AN EXTRACT

In the EDAG CityBot ecosystem, a fleet of connected and autonomous robotic vehicles is revolutionizing urban mobility and municipal service functions from the ground up.

MODULAR

With its numerous utility modules (trailers and rucksack modules), the EDAG CityBot can be individually configured and used around the clock for all kinds of tasks in the urban environment. All this will happen in a cordoned-off area where only EDAG CityBots, bicycles and pedestrians are allowed.

EFFICIENT AND SUSTAINABLE

EDAG CityBots will take the place of classic individual transport in inner cities. They are networked and highly automated, and travel around the city at an average speed of 30 km/h, are constantly in motion and, with their battery or fuel cell drive, are extremely energy-efficient and emission-free.

CONNECTED

The EDAG CityBot is an innovative platform that combines various AI models and architectures. The avatar plays a decisive role as an interface (HMI) between the EDAG CityBot and people. The EDAG CityBot’s head is able to speak and hear, and to understand gestures, emotions and eye movement. To this end, sensors are integrated high up in the avatar, enabling the EDAG CityBots to interact with people at the same level.

EDAG CITYBOT INTERACTIVE

A MODULE WITH FURTHER INFORMATION

Matrix lighting
Vehicle lighting, communication symbols and vehicle status are displayed automatically and order-related.
GNSS localization
Guarantees precise localization for the driving and work functions. With RTK correction, positioning accuracy (1 – 3 cm) can be achieved.
Automated coupling system
Realises a robust mechanical and torque-resistant connection to the user modules. With a central connector unit for the coupling interface, modules without separate energy storage are supplied with electrical voltage. Control signals and the additional sensor data of the coupled modules are also transmitted via this unit.
Environmental sensors
Ultrasonic and solid-state lidar sensors are further components of surroundings detection. These sensors detect and protect pedestrians and other road users.
Avatar
An integrated 3D stereo camera is part of the environment sensing system. It also serves as a central HMI communication point for its surroundings. It can hear, speak and also share emotions via gestures. Additional cameras support optional teleoperated operation.
5G mobile communications
For the constant exchange of all information relevant for al operation and the environment data with the vehicle`s external mobility backend. Enables optimised traffic flow and deployment planning including the necessary billing and payment process.
Electric powertrain
With its battery-electric drive system (possibly fue-cell powered in the future), the EDAG CityBots are extremely energy-efficient and emission-free.
All-wheel steering
Realised with corner modules and the integrated in-wheel drives, wich enable a steering angle range of 132 degrees for all wheels. This means that the EDAG CityBot can also drive sideways and perform a point of turn (optional; depending on the module configuration).
Wheel hub motors
With up to 80 KW of power for an economical drive with the expected driving profile in the automated, centrally administered and connected traffic of the Smart City.

FUTURE MOBILITY

NETWORKED MOBILITY CREATES COMPLETELY NEW BUSINESS CASES

In conjunction with the platform technology for the Internet of Things (IoT) and, for example, the digital micro-payment solutions of EDAG partner IOTA, the EDAG CityBot offers not only new, autonomous transport and working vehicles, but also possible new business models; if, for example, work assignments of individual utility modules are paid for automatically or companies design their own utility modules as gadgets for the ecosystem.
